I think it’s about time. I just saw an article in a magazine about some designer for target, they called it Vintage Inspired, and then one of the recent culture magazines called it Vintage Modern, it makes a lot of sense, I think the reason why business is exploding now is because of technology, because 20 - 30 years ago I would sell antique lace or a beaded 20’s dress that now technology can copy as well as dyes and all of the colors which were not clear.
WHAT IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST SCORE YOU EVER MADE?
One of my favorites finds, I was in a costume shop in Texas…… this would never happen again. There was this skirt with embroidered peacock feather filaments petals all up and down and it had it been marked way, way down, so obviously it had been there forever, and it had a waste band, sort of 50’s with this squared cut skirt. After I bought it I looked inside at the lining, which was Yellow Silk, and there was a signature that said it was a Processional covering for the Dalai Lama. And somebody added a waste band. And the piece is still in my permanent collection.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL STYLE, CAN YOU DESCRIBE IT?
My personal style shifts a lot because I used to wear vintage all of the time, I would wear a lot of white, petticoats and embroideries but now they are so popular that some of the things that I treasured then look like the copies that everyone else is now wearing
