Lets start with your approach. When you are shooting a project do you work with a crew, for example a set designer, a stylist and hair and makeup people?
Absolutely, the bigger the vision the more involved the production. For my projects to be a success, it’s imperative that I work with a stylist and hair and makeup artist. Their support allows me to stay focused and concentrate on composing the image and photographing the model. I work with the same stylist and makeup artist for every photo shoot. I’m a creature of habit and I like the people I work with, we’re like family and we have loads of fun.
What is your favorite medium to work in?
Collages, the second part of my process after photography.
I love Thelma Golden who has curated some incredible exhibits. How did you enjoy your residence at the Harlem Museum?
The Studio Museum in Harlem residency was a fantastic and amazing place for me to concentrate on a new body of work.
How do you integrate art into your daily life?
I eat Campbell’s alphabet soup that spells out A.R.T.
